MSc Clinical Communication Studies
Paediatrics, Special Educational Needs, Acquired Brain Injury Complex Communication, AAC
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1991 and specialise in the field of children and young adults with special educational needs, acquired brain injury and complex communication needs, including alternative communication aids (AAC).
I have been working directly in the field of specialist education since 2015, working with educators, families, other therapists and support staff to provide individual direct and indirect therapy support to students with autism, and ADHD who have language and learning needs and social and emotional issues.
In my private practice, I work with children and young adults with acquired brain injury and complex communication needs. I have extensive knowledge of working with non-speaking students with access issues, using augmentative and alternative communication aids (AAC) to give students a voice and a means of participation in their everyday life.
I have worked as a medico legal expert since 2014, I have completed reports for SEND tribunals and for litigation clients, including medical negligence and personal injury cases. I am a member of specialist interest groups for acquired brain injury, AAC and Gestalt Language Processing and medico legal work.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
