Tissue viability nurse, leg ulcers, pressure ulcer, pressure area care, infection control
I am currently working as a Tissue Viability Nurse Lead - Senior Infection Prevention and Control Nurse. I have been working in a senior role for a number of years, with a wide range of experience in Tissue Viability covering primary and secondary care, including residential care homes.
Since qualifying as a registered nurse in 2005 at the University of Salford, I have worked for the NHS in both primary and acute care settings. During my postgraduate professional education I qualified as Specialist District Nurse Practitioner (BSc Hons) at the University of Bolton in 2012, and studied Tissue Viability (MSc) at Huddersfield University in 2018. I am also a Clinical Practice Teacher and Non-Medical Prescriber.
I have developed specialist advanced skills in wound care, leg ulceration, hard to heal wounds and pressure ulcer prevention. As a clinical practice teacher I deliver education in pressure ulcer prevention on a daily basis, while undertaking clinical audits to reduce the incidence of pressure ulcers. I have presented locally, nationally and internationally on the importance of education in terms of pressure ulcer prevention.
I work alongside Healthcare Improvement Scotland as a member of the pressure ulcer expert group, contributing towards guidelines to improve the prevention and management of pressure ulcers.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
