Introduction

I qualified in 2007 and work as an independent occupational therapist and undertake private assessments in peoples' homes and residential/nursing homes. I also do freelance work for an adult and community team in my local authority, where I assess clients for housing issues and equipment needs. I work independently, treating clients in their own environment and I make recommendations for minor and major housing adaptations, as well as providing equipment and specialist seating. I implement moving and handling care plans where appropriate, ensuring my client is moving safely around their home,to promote their independence and reduce risk.

I am also an Associate at The OT Practice. As part of this role I undertake holistic assessments and write in-depth reports for case managers. The clients have a wide variety of conditions including amputees, spinal injury, cerebral palsy and multiple orthopaedic injuries. I am part of the Quality Assurance team checking through case management reports from therapists writing housing and equipment reports and have recently joined the Clinical Lead Team offering my expertise/advice to more junior associates on complex cases.

To maintain my professional development and ensure my clinical knowledge is up to date, I attend conferences and exhibitions, as well as being a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Sections in Independent Practice and undertake regular supervision and training.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
