Introduction

I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2001 and have a diverse range of experience including, major trauma, elective orthopaedics, care of the elderly, stroke rehabilitation, and acute medicine and surgery. I have worked with, surgical clients including new amputees, and more recently, long standing lower limb amputees in my social care roles.

My last two clinical roles have been working within social services departments as a locum and I continue to work for Liverpool City council. I undertake assessments looking at major adaptation, for individuals with varying disabilities caused by chronic illnesses such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and due to trauma, including lower limb amputees. I provide assessment to make their homes more accessible and to maximise their independence and support carers. I also provide moving and handling risk assessments to clients and their carers, as well as overarching support on moving and handling issues to the wider occupational therapy team in the area.

I set-up Athena Handling Ltd in 2021.  I design and deliver training courses to social care and NHS occupational therapy and physiotherapy teams. This support departments to develop their moving and handling policies and training.

I have spent a great deal of time in people’s home guiding their rehabilitation after discharge from hospital, using graded activities to enable people to regain as much independence as possible with their activities of daily living.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
