Alison Somek Retires from Somek & Associates

Recent weeks have seen staff, experts, clients and other colleagues with whom Alison has worked in the medico-legal field coming together to celebrate her retirement and reflect upon her outstanding career.

Alison's career as an expert witness started in the 1980’s (pre the Woolf reforms), with her and her husband Chris, establishing Somek & Associates in 1997. Having been in existence for over 27 years Somek & Associates is now one of the largest expert witness consultancies in the UK. Under Alison’s direction, the organisation is synonymous for acting with integrity, independence, and professionalism, and for having a balanced portfolio of claimant/defendant instructions. A genuine pioneer in this field, Alison launched with just 3 associates, and under her management the team has grown to 250 + associates and 40 + employees, making it one of the largest medicolegal companies in the UK.

Alison has worked tirelessly in promoting the unique contribution of expert witnesses, raising their standards of practice and ensuring the integrity of the expert witness role, not only at Somek & Associates but nationally, through her work with the Expert Witness Institute and the Royal College of Occupational therapy Medico-Legal Forum. As we navigate forward, we remain dedicated to upholding the principles Alison championed. We are all very proud of Alison and proud to be a part of this tremendous organisation. Join us in celebrating her remarkable journey as we extend our deepest gratitude for her years of mentorship, leadership and friendship.

Jessica Thurston, Managing Director Elect
